An Update from
Cleve...
January and February
kept me on the go to shows and clinics. We started out at the Denver National's
with a few new teams. I began qualifying Hot Fudge Chip, owned by Judy
Woodward, in the senior western pleasure. He earned 17 points and was the
Reserve Circuit Champion.
Judy Woodward debuted on Irresistibly Good in
the amateur western pleasure. This is the horse James Woodward rode to the 2002
Reserve Congress Championship in the 3-year-old non-pro. As a new team with a
young horse only shown in futurities, Judy will have a little down time getting
with him and getting him used to horse show environments such as larger
classes.
Linda and Jeff Sargent also showed with us at Denver. Linda,
the 2002 Reserve Champion in Select Western Pleasure at the Congress, did very
well holding her own in the amateur western pleasure on The Ultimate Blaze.
Jeff Sargent has just started showing with us and was placing about 60 percent
of the time.
Jerry Kimmel showed Good and Sure, picking up 17 points
towards his amateur qualification.
After Denver, I rushed home and flew
to Baltimore, MD for the Equine Expo. Thompson Dodge sponsored Clinton Anderson
and myself. My welcome to Baltimore was great. I encourage you to attend the
Equine Expo if you get the chance. It is one of the best.
Once home from
Baltimore, I got back in the truck and headed to the Arizona Sun Circuit. I was
Circuit Champion on Hot Fudge Chip. Judy Woodward made improvements with
Irresistibly Good. Jerry Kimmel sold Good and Sure to Jerry Strickland, so he
is afoot right now. The weather was great and we look forward to being back out
there this fall for the Arizona Fall Classic.
After returning home from
Arizona, I traveled to Houston for John Lyons' Equis Events. I worked there on
Thursday and Friday at Reliance Arena. John was very happy with the turn
out.
I came back home for a few days before going to the Dixie
National's. Linda Sargent won the select amateur western pleasure with two
firsts and Jeff Sargent was fourth. I was third in the junior western pleasure
on the Ultimate Blaze and fourth in the senior western pleasure on Hot Fudge
Chip, who earned his superior from start to finish at Denver, Arizona and
Dixie. Hot Fudge Chip is now standing to the public at Walquist Quarter Horses
in Cleburne, TX.
I am home for a few weeks and then off to Wichita, KS
to the Equifest Feb. 28 through Mar. 2, 2003.
Back at the house, Eric,
Amy and Sheila are breaking a lot of new babies. So far we are dominated by
Good Machine, Blazing Hot, Zips Chocolate Chip and Zippo Sheik babies. It is
very early but I am amazed how each year these babies come with more and more
natural talent.
Traffic has been steady and sales good. That wraps up
my January and February. I will get back in touch in April. Members keep the
good questions coming and time in your favor. |

Article: Show Pen Maintenance You train at home, and show at the shows--right?
Well, if you do, you may be missing a key component to success with your horse:
a little thing called show pen maintenance. It"s one thing to have the horse
physically trained and conditioned to head off to the shows; but keeping him
mentally conditioned during the show season can be an even bigger challenge...
